Play Priorities

Auckland Council was seeking a playground that offered an element of play for all ages in a central location in the 5.42 ha reserve which is renowned as being New Zealand’s first camping ground.

The vision was to design and install a playground with a 'tree-top' theme to reflect the natural landscape of mature trees and the heritage of the reserve and its camp site.

Fun Solution

Playground Centre worked with the Auckland Council to design an open plan playground on a raised central knoll, surrounded by trees and a pedestrian pathway. Play pieces such as towers and an eagle's nest were specifically chosen to elevate users to eye level with the tree tops. Installed slides and flying foxes also took advantage of the existing contours with the new playground offering outdoor recreation for the whole family and a physical challenge.
