Reimagining play at a neighbourhood park
Kilpack Park in Carlingford has been revitalised with a new playground offering greater variety, challenge and opportunities for children of different ages and abilities to play.
Delivered as part of a wider $1.55 million park upgrade by City of Parramatta, the renewed space includes a treehouse-style playground and outdoor fitness equipment, alongside improved pathways and lighting, upgraded barbecue facilities and extensive landscaping.
Playground Centre Australia worked with the City of Parramatta to help translate the playground vision into a practical, buildable solution, supporting the project from playground design and manufacturing through to delivery and installation.
Putting community ideas into play
Community consultation played an important role in shaping the direction of the Kilpack Park upgrade.
Feedback from local residents identified a desire for more varied, adventurous and challenging play, with opportunities for climbing, sliding, swinging, balancing and active movement.
Residents also highlighted the importance of providing experiences for different ages and abilities, incorporating natural play elements, improving accessibility and shade, and creating opportunities for adults as well as children to be active.
The resulting concept brought together a treehouse-style climbing tower, slides, balancing and nature-play elements, swings and fitness equipment – reflecting the types of play and recreation experiences identified through consultation.
A new landmark for bigger adventure
Working with the City of Parramatta’s project team, Playground Centre Australia helped translate the community’s play priorities into an equipment solution that delivers variety, challenge and strong play value within the broader park concept.
At the heart of the playspace is the striking 7m Black Forest Tower with Cubby House. Its height and scale create a strong focal point within the playground, while climbing, exploration and sliding experiences give children different ways to navigate the structure, challenge themselves and return to play in different ways.
On ground level, the tower is joined by a lively mix of play experiences that invite children to climb, slide, balance, step and swing their way around the space. A double embankment slide built into the landscape adds an exciting downhill adventure, while timber balance beams and stepping logs create playful challenges for little feet and growing confidence.
Nearby, the flying saucer swing offers a relaxing spot, with options for gentle swinging, shared adventures and plenty of joyful movement for children of different ages and abilities.
Together, the new equipment creates an exciting play journey. From the towering treehouse to the wobbly balance beams and flying saucer swing, every element invites discovery, adventure and plenty of fun-filled moments. Families can come together, explore the playground, enjoy the fresh air and rediscover the simple magic of play at Kilpack Park.
Design and delivery support when it mattered
Playground Centre supported the project beyond playground design and equipment selection.
Changes to site conditions, equipment delivery, excavation, and installation required close coordination with Council, local installers and other contractors. Playground Centre’s dedicated project management team helped keep the work organised and moving forward.
Support included:
- Proactive updates on site timing and readiness
- Clear communication around delivery and installation progress
- Coordination of plans, set-out details and site information
- Practical next-step planning when timelines changed.
This support helped Council and the wider project team stay informed, aligned and prepared throughout delivery, playing an important role in the project’s successful completion.
