Play Priorities
This project with Auckland City Council gave us the licence to let our imaginations run wild and create a contemporary urban playground that provides Auckland kids with a truly memorable play experience.
Part of the Council’s ongoing development of the city’s parks and open spaces, the design of this new playground in Virginia Reserve highlights the benefits of tailoring equipment choices and finishes and creating custom pieces to suit a space. The result is a play space that’s unique, with stand-out pieces that inspire joyful, active play.
Fun Solution
The first thing you see when you visit the Virginia Reserve playground is the gigantic Tuatara – a carved wooden sculpture of the dinosaur-like reptile that’s native to New Zealand. Custom-made in New Zealand for the park and carved from timber using a chainsaw, the larger than life Tuatara provides a focal point for the playground and many a photo opportunity! Not to mention the fact that kids love to climb all over him and explore all of the bumps along his back and tail.
But that’s not all this playground has to offer! The Edendale 116 – Urban was the perfect choice for the playground in terms of play value and aesthetics. One of our versatile modular play systems, the Edendale features a range of fun, educational and challenging play options. From the top of its tower to its slide, elevated tunnel, wobbly bridge and monkey bars, to its in-built Abacus and Tic-Tac-Toe games, the Edendale is designed for interactive play, learning and adventure.
The Edendale was finished in a combination of stainless steel, aluminium and hardwood with UV plastic components in vibrant lime green, to ensure the play space has the modern inner city look the Council wanted and durability, too.
Adding to the sensory stimulation on offer is a set of Interactive Play Panels positioned along the walkway that runs beside the playground.
